North Coast Regional Workshop held
II International Journey of Environmental Education
Environmental organizations, state and local government institutions and educators of the North Coast held on 8 and 9 May, the Regional Workshop of the Second International Journey of Environmental Education, linked to the Rio +20 Conference to be held in June in Rio Janeiro. The regional workshop was held in two stages on the North Coast with a lecture in Ubatuba, aimed at students of the Municipal School Pres. Tancredo Neves Almeida, attended by about 100 people, including students of tourism and environment, as well as environmentalists and concerned community. The second step was a meeting at the State Park of Serra do Mar - Caraguatatuba Center, which brought together 50 leaders in the area of environmental educators in the region.
To talk about it, the representative of the Advisory Council of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), Peter Aranha, gave a lecture on "Rio 92 Rio +20: Paths taken by the Environmental Movement." The representative of the Institute SuperEco, Andree Vieira de Ridder, spoke about the I Journey of Environmental Education, held in 1992, alongside the Rio 92, and the II Journey, taking place this year, concurrent with the Rio + 20.
In his talk, Peter Aranha contextualized the major UN conferences held in the interval between conferences 1972 and 2012. He discussed issues related to the relationship between man and the environment and what will happen this year's conference, whose main themes in Governance and Green Economy. Aranha also spoke about the events parallel to the Rio +20, which will involve civil society. The main one is the Peoples' Summit and Dialogues for Sustainability.
Andree Rider explained that the I International Journey of Environmental Education officiated the Treaty on Environmental Education, which provided guidelines for the creation of the National Environmental Education Policies. During the regional meeting, the participants revisited the Treaty and its applicability in the local reality. At the time, were also made flags that represent the relationship of the North Coast with the Treaty and will be exposed during the Rio + 20. In all, seven flags were made of cloth, using different materials, with topics related to the reality of the North Coast, as the importance of environmental resources, traditional communities, the tourism potential, concern about the impacts of major projects, among others.
The organization of this event was developed from a networking and mutual cooperation among the collectives, institutions and educators of the four municipalities - Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela, Ubatuba and São Sebastião, which are:
